ESRI (UK) ArcGIS 9.3 extends geographic knowledge

6 October, 2008: ESRI (UK) customers will soon benefit from improved interoperability and enhanced geospatial services available in ArcGIS 9.3. This incremental release of ArcGIS will not only make it easier than ever for ESRI (UK) customers to access data from multiple databases, but will enable them to access rich GIS functionality from a range of clients including mobile, web-based and third-party applications..

ESRI’s ArcGIS 9.3 software solution is designed to be open and interoperate with standard hardware platforms, operating systems, database technology and application servers. With ArcGIS 9.3, users can extract, transform and load spatial information easily from multiple data sources and export data to other spatial systems using point to point interfaces and industry standards like SOA.

Peter Wilkinson, Head of Technical Solutions Group, ESRI (UK) said: “ArcGIS 9.3’s open architecture will enable organisations to integrate geographic data quickly and simply within their core business systems, for example, risk management, customer relationship management and business intelligence software. Interoperability within ArcGIS 9.3 also enables information to be shared easily throughout an organisation and with partners and customers”.

ESRI’s ArcGIS 9.3 software offers full support for the latest operating systems and database technology including PostgreSQL, Microsoft SQL Server2008 and Vista as well as support for Adobe System’s Acrobat 9 application. This provides first time ability to find, locate, display and measure locations and features on a map in a PDF file using x and y co-ordinates and enables users to distribute maps to a wider audience.

The new JavaScript and Flex APIs make sharing maps over the Internet or company intranets easier, as well as combining GIS-based web services from ArcGIS Server with other web content. This new mash-up capability enables organisations to reduce the time required to distribute GIS data and applications over the web

‘ArcGIS 9.3 is the only complete and interoperable GIS capable of delivering a seamless and highly visual experience, customised to the exact needs and abilities of any individual within an organisation. With the 9.3 release, GIS is now available to a whole new non-technical user base, allowing them to go beyond simple mapping and really explore the possibilities of geographic analysis’, Peter concluded.
