Stevenage, Herts, UK. 11 December, 2009 – Digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) software developer Cadcorp has announced that Weymouth and Portland Borough Council has selected Cadcorp SIS – Spatial Information System desktop and Cadcorp GeognoSIS web-based software for its new corporate GIS. The new software will replace existing facilities used by the authority and will be the basis of all GIS applications used by the council.
Cadcorp will supply a number of licences of its Cadcorp SIS Map Modeller and Map Editor desktop software to be used by expert GIS users. Cadcorp GeognoSIS web mapping software will also be provided to allow access to GIS facilities via the council’s corporate intranet. In addition, GeognoSIS will provide public access to map-based data through the council’s web site via the Internet. The Cadcorp software will store data in an Oracle-based repository of spatial data in SDO_Geometry format and will provide GIS data and mapping capability to existing planning and environmental health applications, as well as to new land charges and estate management systems.
“Following an extensive and detailed procurement and evaluation process, we chose the Cadcorp suite of products as we believe they offer us extremely good value and high quality productivity tools to take us forward with our future GIS aspirations. Cadcorp’s flexible approach and understanding of local government needs, along with products that provide high levels of integration with a variety of our operational back-office systems, were key factors in choosing them. We are confident that in partnership with Cadcorp we are now in a position to deliver high quality geographic information to our community, in particular as the sailing venue for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, and into the future, and we are looking forward to working with Cadcorp,” commented Richard Gray, GIS Supervisor at Weymouth and Portland Borough Council.
“We are proud that, after a thorough evaluation of available software offerings, Weymouth and Portland Borough Council has selected Cadcorp SIS as the basis of its corporate GIS,” said Mike O’Neil, managing director, Cadcorp. “We look forward to working with staff at the authority to help them achieve their objectives.”
