Centremaps live‘reaching new heights’ at Civil '08

CENTREMAPS is now giving construction industry professionals access to an exciting new product Blom UrbEx – a solution centred on base technology and imagery provided by Blom and delivered online by centremapslive.com. The unique product combines oblique aerial imaging with a state-of-the-art software system that provides unparalleled visual intelligence. The exciting new product will be shown for the first time at Civils 2008 on the CENTREMAPSlive stand (B42).

Andy Terry, CENTREMAPS Systems Manager comments: “CENTREMAPS is delighted to offer Blom UrbEx online and Civils 2008 provides us with an excellent opportunity to let the industry see the benefits offered by this exciting new product. These include the ability to make use of oblique imagery to view buildings and structures and simple access through practical licensing without the need to hold data locally or install software. The combination of centremapslive.com and Blom UrbEx will completely change the way industry professionals can investigate a site environment providing information not easily gathered on the ground and significantly reducing the number of site visits required.”

Blom UrbEx offers a step forward in the application of aerial photography. The content is high resolution and provides North, East, South and West and plan views available across the majority of Great Britain cities. By making Blom UrbEx available online through centremapslive.com, CENTREMAPS is able to offer the construction industry professional rapid ease of access when viewing height, distance and volume determination – without actually having to leave their desks!

The range of applications for which Blom UrbEx would be suitable is extensive, providing an invaluable tool for project engineers, planning and building control engineers in local government, utility engineers, environmental engineers, security planners, architects, town planners and urban designers.

In addition CENTREMAPS has also brought together a range of height products to provide the construction sector with the coverage, currency and resolution required to meet the needs of almost any project. Whether the project is a flood study, or solving the problems associated with coastal erosion or the projects are in the midst of urban sprawl, the range of data available provides the engineer with the coverage, currency and resolution required to meet the need of almost every project. For example, 5m resolution may be sufficient for some projects but for other projects that may be close to flood plains or in urban areas, then 1m or 0.5m or even 0.25m resolution will be a requirement.

This is where CENTREMAPS really comes into its own. Through centermapslive.com a broad range of data is offered with data from other sources together in one location. This gives industry professionals unprecedented ease of access and offers a new level in availability both in coverage, choice of data and resolution with coverage at up to 5cm resolution and as far back in time as the 1940s. In addition, all of the data is geographically referenced and can be used in CAD and GIS systems with large scale OS MasterMap from Ordnance Survey.

Mark Walker, Managing Director – CENTREMAPS, comments: “Our philosophy at CENTREMAPS is to bring spatial data from a wide range of sources together in one location in order to meet the needs of the construction professional. By bringing together a broad range of resources in one location, we are able to offer our customers unprecedented ease of access and cost-effectiveness.”

He continues: “The breath of CENTREMAPS offering has been possible through collaboration with a nationwide consortium of mapping and government organisations, including Ordnance Survey, The Environment Agency, British Geological Survey and Land and Property Services in Belfast (formally Ordnance Survey Northern Ireland). With their support the portal makes available mapping data such as property-level, street-level, local/outdoor mapping, road mapping, geological mapping, aerial photography, height information, postcode mapping, and administrative areas ensuring we meet the needs of the building and construction industry.”

Other products available for review on the CENTREMAPS stand at Civils 2008 include imagery and height data from Cities Revealed and the Environment Agency, geological data products from BGS, a wide spectrum of databases from Land & Property Services in Northern Ireland, as well as other databases from Ordnance Survey. CENTREMAPS will also have GroundSure Insight products (EnviroInsight, GeoInsight plus the MapInsight high resolution historical mapping) available on the stand plus standard sheet data from the historical mapping archive. CENTREMAPS is also working closely with Ordnance Survey to promote their marketing campaign, BoLD – Benefits of Licensed Data, to encourage customers to use properly licensed data, details of which will be available at the CENTREMAPS stand.
