Cadcorp hosts Fire User Group.

Cadcorp SIS fire brigade users from across the UK meet in Stevenage.

Digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) software developer, Cadcorp, recently hosted a meeting dedicated to supporting its users in fire and rescue services.

Held in the Novotel, Stevenage, UK, this was the fifth such annual gathering of Cadcorp SIS users from UK brigades. Attendees included representatives from ten brigades along with staff from the Association for Geographic Information (‘AGI’) and the Ordnance Survey. Representatives from Cadcorp partners SSi Solutions Limited and VectorCommand Limited also attended. Both organisations provide applications for emergency services that use the Cadcorp SIS Active X Control as their mapping and GIS engine.

Cadcorp showed a preview of Cadcorp SIS 7, which is scheduled to begin shipping later this year. Representatives from Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service and London Fire and Emergency Service presented the latest developments in the use of Cadcorp SIS technology at their sites. Chris Holcroft, director of the AGI, presented an overview of the AGI, and their aim to recruit members from within the fire market in order to further broaden the diversity of their membership. The Ordnance Survey updated the audience on latest developments with their data products including ITN and Address Layer 2.

SSi Solutions (www.ssi.co.uk) gave a demonstration of their latest hydrant management application. Incorporating Cadcorp SIS ActiveX technology, SSi’s Specialist Fire Hydrant Management System (FHMS) is optimized for use within the fire and water management industries. In the six months since release it has been adopted by seven brigades and is under evaluation by another four.

Steve Prendergast, of VectorCommand (www.emergencycommandsystem.com) gave an overview of their newly developed Command Support System, using Cadcorp SIS, and their work implementing the system with London Fire Brigade and other fire brigades and emergency management organisations in the UK and internationally. The system delivers improved command, control and communications for helping emergency services, government departments and homeland defence/national resilience agencies, search and rescue organisations, oil and gas companies and armed forces improve the speed and effectiveness of their response to disasters and emergencies.
