Autodesk Summer School Helps Users Get More
from CAD Mapping Data
Anyone who is fed up spending hours translating mapping data into AutoCAD and who relies on receiving data from other departments or organisations in a variety of formats, will be interested in a series of hands-on sessions Autodesk is running at Summer School Training Events across the UK. So too will users of the existing AutoCAD compatible product, OS Landline which is set to be discontinued and replaced by OS MasterMap.
The all-day training sessions, which run from Monday 30 July to Tuesday 25 September, will help users to work far more quickly and efficiently with their CAD environment and mapping data.
The session provides an introduction to AutoCAD Map 3D, the platform which provides CAD functionality combined with powerful mapping tools for quickly loading, creating and editing spatial data.
Each session will give AutoCAD users advice on reading many mapping formats quickly and easily, including the new OS MasterMap, while removing the need to spend hours or days translating the data.
“We speak to many traditional CAD users who spend days or even weeks translating, manipulating and processing map-based data. There is no need to spend so much time on such tasks. These training sessions will provide an introduction to doing the most common data management tasks more quickly using AutoCAD Map 3D,” says Dominic Jukes of Autodesk. “In addition, delegates will also learn how to get more out of their mapping data.”
The sessions, which are priced at £150 plus VAT, cover practical advice and demonstrations on how to do the most common data management tasks. Delegates also qualify for one free 30-day trial copy of Map 3D software with support to be used before 7 October 2007, in addition to a 10 per cent discount on one full software licence (excluding subscriptions) on orders placed by 15 October 2007.
Anyone interested in attending one of the Summer School training sessions, should contact their local Autodesk reseller. Alternatively to book online or find out more, go to www.autodeskseminars.com/info/ss07

Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.HAVE WE REALLY LEARNT THE LESSONS FROM LAST YEAR’S FLOODS?
Flooding costs associated with extreme weather, both financial and emotional, have increased considerably over the last decade, and experts have predicted this trend is set to continue.
Paul Livett, Chairman of GroundSure looks into how increasing the use of flood risk information in property transactions can help to ensure both residential and commercial transactions are conducted on a truly informed basis, with buyers being made aware of environmental risks prior to purchase.
Over 2.2 million homes and small businesses in the UK are located in areas considered at risk of flooding, and the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has said that 570,000 of these face a high risk of flooding. The floods in June and July last year left approximately 48,000 households… More…
