BlueSky approved as OS mapping and data centre

Aerial survey company BlueSky has been
appointed as an Ordnance Survey Mapping and Data Centre. BlueSky is now part of a nationwide network of specialist retailers launched by Ordnance Survey earlier this year. With this appointment BlueSky has gained approval as a centre of excellence for Ordnance Survey products giving a growing client base of both private and commercial map users access to the latest map products and
services from the national mapping agency.

As an Ordnance Survey Mapping and Data Centre, BlueSky is an exclusive stockist of OS Landplan and OS Sitemap mapping. OS Landplan, at a scale of 1:10,000, is ideal for site location, farm or estate management and educational research and teaching. It is the most detailed mapping available from Ordnance Survey to include height contours. OS Sitemap has been specially designed to
help with the submission of planning applications and to assist architects and
engineers with development projects, typically at output scales from 1:2500 to 1:500. OS Sitemap is available from BlueSky in a range of formats including hard copy prints and digital map files and at different scales.

In addition to exclusive products stocked by BlueSky, customers can also access the entire range of Ordnance Survey small-scale mapping, including OS Select, the customised mapping service that allows you to order an individually printed map centred on a specific location. BlueSky also supplies Ordnance Survey large-scale customised mapping and digital map data.

“We are very proud to be an Ordnance Survey Mapping and Data Centre of excellence,” said Rachel Eddy, Managing Director of BlueSky. “The printed maps and digital data are the perfect complement to our own nationwide coverage of highly detailed aerial photography.”

At the launch of Ordnance Survey Mapping and Data Centres, the agency’s Director General and Chief Executive, Vanessa Lawrence, said: “These outlets are centres of excellence for all our products and are exclusive stockists of OS Sitemap. Strategically located and technologically linked to the Ordnance
Survey’s database they can supply customers with the very latest mapping on demand.”

BlueSky are UK based specialists in aerial imaging and remote sensing data collection and processing. With projects extending from New York to Paris they have an international reputation for the creation of seamless, digital aerial photography and 3D landscape / cityscape visualisations. BlueSky’s national mapping centre provides digital maps, site plans, satellite imagery, aerial photography and ultra-high resolution imagery of cities and towns.

Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.
This month's burning issue:

HAVE WE REALLY LEARNT THE LESSONS FROM LAST YEAR’S FLOODS?

Flooding costs associated with extreme weather, both financial and emotional, have increased considerably over the last decade, and experts have predicted this trend is set to continue.

Paul Livett, Chairman of GroundSure looks into how increasing the use of flood risk information in property transactions can help to ensure both residential and commercial transactions are conducted on a truly informed basis, with buyers being made aware of environmental risks prior to purchase.

Over 2.2 million homes and small businesses in the UK are located in areas considered at risk of flooding, and the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has said that 570,000 of these face a high risk of flooding. The floods in June and July last year left approximately 48,000 households… More…
