Bedfordshire & Luton Fire & Rescue Service selects Imass to provide a hydrant management system

- Asset management tool for use in the control room & in the field

Imass Ltd has been selected by Bedfordshire & Luton Fire & Rescue Service (BLFRS) to implement a fire hydrant and water source asset management system. This will be utilised by the service's water officer and will provide accurate information to front-line fire crews on location via their Imass vehicle-mounted data systems.

Water is a vital resource for fighting fire. The Imass system, Hydra, allows efficient management of information on hydrants and emergency water sources, such as ponds and lakes, which could be used at an incident. Using Hydra, BLFRS will be able to manage and access information on the location of hydrants, the operational status of each - all inspections and repairs can be recorded within the system - and the mains size to that particular hydrant - which informs the service how much water will be available via that source.

"We are very excited about having this system on-board. It will mean that crucial water source data will be available, not only to the water officers but within each vehicle enabling better informed, quick on-site decisions - which could help save time and lives," stated Eve Ford, Water Supplies Officer for Bedfordshire & Luton Fire & Rescue Service. "It is our aim to maximise the safety of our communities, and having this management system will help us to do that."

The system will be installed during Q2 of this year with all teams receiving training ready for deployment throughout the service. The Bedfordshire & Luton Fire & Rescue Service serves a population of over 570,000 with 466 firefighters operating out of 14 fire stations.
