Sustainable Energy Ireland have recently appointed Compass Informatics of Dublin to design and deliver a GIS based system for mapping and modelling bioenergy actiities and potential. The system will deal with agriculture, forestry, and industrial waste streams as sources of biomass suited to energy generation, and will also assess demand for bioenergy material. The system will seek to utilise many of the core spatial datasets for Ireland in an innovative manner, integrating them with project designed models, and models already being designed in a range of organisations. The overall system will seek to support the country's efforts to expand bioenergy use in a sustainable and appropriate manner.
