FCS - is the UK Trade Association for the communications services industry, representing businesses delivering products and services by radio, mobile, fixed and IP telephony. FCS was established in 1981 and is the stable force at the heart of the competitive industry, providing a voice for companies that deliver innovation into the UK market.
FCS representative groups include Business Radio, Critical National Infrastructure and the Industry Forum.
FCS maintains a number of industry codes of practice for the radio sector including the UK Code of Practice for the installation of mobile radio and other ancillary equipment in land based vehicles - FCS1362 (formerly MPT1362) and recently launched the FCS Installer Training and Accreditation Scheme (FITAS) for the installers of communications equipment into vehicles and as a replacement for the existing Silver Award Scheme. The FITAS scheme is focused on individual installers rather than companies and will offer members a recognised programme of continuous improvement via structured training and an annual assessment of skills and knowledge. It will also offer install customers the reassurance of an accreditation based on clear and documented standards underpinned by regular audits and assessments.
FITAS is being supported by manufacturers and industry organisations including Motorola, Parrot, the Tetra Association and the Association of Car Fleet Operators (ACFO) and will continue to be recognised by the Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) and Ofcom.
