Autodesk announced as Gold Sponsor of Conference

1Spatial is delighted to announce Autodesk as a Gold Sponsor of its 2008 Conference: ‘1 Source of Truth’, being held from 29th April to 1st May at the Radisson SAS Hotel, Stansted Airport, UK.

The decision follows Autodesk’s successful involvement in last year’s conference and is an indication of the growing importance of the event to the industry in general. 1Spatial and Autodesk have a lengthy history of collaboration around local government, central government and utility sectors and 1Spatial is also a reseller for Autodesk products. They also have numerous joint customers using 1Spatial’s solutions to validate spatial data quality in conjunction with the FDO, enterprise web mapping and other CAD functionality of products such as AutoCAD® Map 3D and Autodesk MapGuide®.

AutoCAD Map 3D software bridges CAD and GIS by providing direct access to data, regardless of how it is stored and by enabling the use of AutoCAD software tools for maintaining a broad variety of geospatial information. MapGuide technology is used to author and publish maps and design information quickly and easily for distribution internally or on the web. In addition, at the conference, Autodesk will be showcasing Topobase which integrates infrastructure design and management, providing organisation-wide access to spatial information engineering, GIS, operations and business teams.

Geoff Zeiss, Director of Technology at Autodesk commented:

“We are very pleased to be part of what I consider to be one of the leading industry events in the UK, and which I believe, brings together knowledge and expertise of geospatial issues to help expand the boundaries of the use of geospatial technology. We’re looking forward to continuing to work with 1Spatial and contributing to the discussions, particularly those surrounding the application of geospatial technology in the engineering and architectural domains.”

Steven Ramage, Business Development Director for 1Spatial added:

“As global leaders in their field, and 1Spatial Community members, we are delighted to welcome Autodesk as a sponsor of the 2008 Conference. As the design and GI worlds change rapidly around us, our combined expertise will provide a valuable industry resource. We look forward to their involvement in the Conference this year as we highlight the issues surrounding CAD/GIS convergence.”

With many other leading organisations also supporting this industry-leading event, the conference offers a comprehensive learning package for anyone working with spatial data, from expert practitioners, through to programmers and chief executive officers. Focussed discussions, presentations and workshops will assist you in achieving more effective and efficient use of spatial data throughout your organisation, or for any activity involved in integrating spatial data and building Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs).

Registration for the 1Spatial Conference 2008 is NOW OPEN. To find out more and register, please visit www.1spatial.com/conference or contact the conference team on conference@1spatial.com

This Month's Burning Issue...
Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.
This month's burning issue:

HAVE WE REALLY LEARNT THE LESSONS FROM LAST YEAR’S FLOODS?

Flooding costs associated with extreme weather, both financial and emotional, have increased considerably over the last decade, and experts have predicted this trend is set to continue.

Paul Livett, Chairman of GroundSure looks into how increasing the use of flood risk information in property transactions can help to ensure both residential and commercial transactions are conducted on a truly informed basis, with buyers being made aware of environmental risks prior to purchase.

Over 2.2 million homes and small businesses in the UK are located in areas considered at risk of flooding, and the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has said that 570,000 of these face a high risk of flooding. The floods in June and July last year left approximately 48,000 households… More…
