Are you new to making maps? Do you think your maps are stylish? If yes then why not enter the BCS New Mapmaker Award?
This annual Award is sponsored by the National Geographic Society, in conjunction with the British Cartographic Society (BCS), and is open to those people who have been engaged in the preparation of maps either for no more than two years as new employees in commercial firms or government offices or as university/college students.
The New Mapmaker Award focuses particularly on the application of mapping to demonstrate geographic patterns and trends as either a single map or a map as part of a larger project. Each entry should encompass all aspects of cartography and may include the use of Computer Aided Design (CAD), geomatics or Geographic Information Science (GIS).
The Award consists of a £500 prize, a certificate, the National Geographic Society World Atlas and membership of the BCS for one year.
This year, due to the change of date of the BCS Annual Symposium, entries for this Award need to be received by 25 April 2009 at the very latest. Judging will take place on the 27 April and so adherence to the closing date is essential.
For further details, including the Rules and an Entry Form, please go to www.cartography.org.uk
