American, Russian, European or Chinese GNSS?

By the end of this decade, four independent Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) will be operational. Today only the American GPS system is fully operational, and the Russian GLONASS system is rapidly approaching full operational status. These two systems will soon be complimented by the European Galileo system, and the Chinese Compass system. A four constellation GNSS is just around the corner to deliver improved GNSS performance and efficiency, and Leica Geosystems is ready!
Both China and Europe have begun the deployment of their GNSS systems with the launch of test satellites. Current planning shows that the Chinese system, known as the Compass Navigation Satellite System (CNSS) or "BeiDou", its Chinese name, will provide navigation and positioning service before 2010. At this time, the European Galileo system will also be progressing towards full operational status.
With the Future Proof design of Leica System 1200, all GNSS sensors can be upgraded to support all four constellations to offer additional benefits in performance and survey efficiency. Although system providers have not fully defined what signal restrictions they will apply, Leica Geosystems is the only manufacturer that can already offer a compliance upgrade path to all four satellite systems which is based on publicly available system definition. In addition, Leica Geosystems is the first manufacturer that will offer upgradeability to the most modern and most accurate Galileo AltBOC signal. Combined with the benefits of being built to military tough specifications and complete flexibility of deployment with other Leica System 1200 instruments, System 1200 GNSS is not only the best system today, but also well into the future!
