Act Now - Demand High for FREE Registration Places at GeoDATA 2008

Training 4 GIS™, the training and consultancy division of The GeoInformation Group™, announced today that the continued high demand on registrations means that places are now limited. With less than three weeks before the start of the GeoDATA 2008 – the Road to Change, the organisers recommend that interested parties act quickly to ensure their attendance.

GeoDATA is now in its sixth year and is the only independently organised roadshow event that showcases geographic data and the benefits they bring to those within both the public and private sectors. As a company responsive to change, Training4GIS has evolved the programme content to focus on the business applications and return on investment issues affecting the geographic information industry.

This ever-popular series annually changes locations to accommodate as many GIS professionals as possible, this year the GeoDATA tour will stop in:

London on 13 May 2008,
Manchester on 15 May 2008,
Cardiff on 20 May 2008 and
Glasgow on 22 May 2008.

Leading data suppliers and data management specialists will provide educational presentations focusing on working practices and the latest technologies, and applications for service delivery.

Topics include:

Will Imagery Take over from the Vector Map? Environment Systems

Tackling Climate Change: The Role for Geographic Data, The GeoInformation Group

The Future of GI and its Industry, Association for Geographic Information (AGI)

Bridging the Gap between CAD, GIS and Content Management, Bentley Systems

Interoperability: Data from Different Sources, Cadcorp

Open Standards Database Management and Data Warehousing, STAR-APIC

Advances in GPS Data Capture Technology, KOREC

Ways in which 3D Data Help Improve Understanding and Output, Intermap

3D and 4D Geological Data Applications, British Geological Survey

Managing OS MasterMap in AutoCAD can be Easy! Autodesk

Web Delivery of Mapping Services, CENTREMAPS
“Like previous years we are experiencing a high level of interest in GeoDATA, despite sourcing larger venues for the 2008 series a number of the events are getting close to full capacity. Venue space limits the number of free registrations we can accept so we strongly encourage interested parties to book their place as soon as possible. In providing an independent platform for users to communicate with vendors from all aspects of the world of GIS, GeoDATA is an established and popular event in the GI calendar.” comments Fiona Cocks, Training Manager for Training4GIS.

The free to attend 1-day seminars are accredited by The Association of Geographic Information and are worth four CPD points towards the Chartered Geographer (GIS) status. To register go to:

This Month's Burning Issue...
Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.
This month's burning issue:

HAVE WE REALLY LEARNT THE LESSONS FROM LAST YEAR’S FLOODS?

Flooding costs associated with extreme weather, both financial and emotional, have increased considerably over the last decade, and experts have predicted this trend is set to continue.

Paul Livett, Chairman of GroundSure looks into how increasing the use of flood risk information in property transactions can help to ensure both residential and commercial transactions are conducted on a truly informed basis, with buyers being made aware of environmental risks prior to purchase.

Over 2.2 million homes and small businesses in the UK are located in areas considered at risk of flooding, and the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has said that 570,000 of these face a high risk of flooding. The floods in June and July last year left approximately 48,000 households… More…
