AUGMENTRA FINDS SUCCESS AT ORDNANCE SURVEY PARTNER AWARDS

Winning ViewRanger product provides navigation and maps on a mobile

Augmentra is revelling in its success, having been awarded Most Innovative Product in the navigation sector in the Ordnance Survey’s partner awards. The awards were announced at Location 2008 – the Ordnance Survey partner conference attended by over 150 delegates on 12 May 2008.

Augmentra’s flagship product ViewRanger puts highly-detailed digital topographic maps, such as the OS Landranger Map and OS Explorer Map series, into a user’s mobile phone, creating a fully-functioned trail guidance system or ‘off-road sat nav’ for active outdoors enthusiasts. ViewRanger has been embraced by walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, paragliders and equestrians, among others.

“We are delighted to have been honoured with this award,” says Craig Wareham of Augmentra. “Ordnance Survey works with a huge number of partners, so it’s amazing to be singled out for special praise. It is a wonderful recognition of all our hard work in making ViewRanger an outstanding product.”

ViewRanger offers navigation, route-planning, and points-of-interest. It integrates with the phone’s camera to link images to the user’s map location, and the 3D panoramic view function displays a labelled vista of the surrounding landscape to help identify mountains, woods, lakes and settlements. A trip computer monitors parameters such as speed, pace and distance, and can be used to review activity and improve performance.

“Being a partner with Ordnance Survey means that we are building our functionality onto a solid, proven base,” says Craig Wareham. “The quality of Ordnance Survey mapping data is recognised as second-to-none, providing a strong backbone on which to develop.”

"Partners are vital to the success of our business," says Mark Salter, Head of Partners and Strategic Alliance at Ordnance Survey. "Their innovation helps ensure that Ordnance Survey's geographic information underpins products and services right across public and private sectors.

"Our awards reflect our recognition of this. I'd like to congratulate all of the winners on their tremendous achievements during the past year - and wish them every success for the future."

MANAGING CLIMATIC RISK

Russell Osborne, Managing Director of Citizen Solutions for Northgate Public Services, comments on managing climate risk in the economic downturn.

During tough economic times, bold steps must be taken to ensure the long-term prosperity of the UK’s communities, economy and natural environment. As outlined in the 2008 Pre-Budget Report, the public sector is to act as the vehicle driving growth in the UK economy. We must make sure that… More…
