From classroom to boardroom - mapping the future: placing spatial data within education
With the rapid growth of the Geographic Information industry, spatial data, GIS and related technologies are becoming increasingly pervasive across government, business and in everyday life.
As these new tools for 'spatially informed' analysis and decision making become embedded, more and more people will encounter them within the workplace, yet many will be poorly equipped to get the full benefit of the potential offered.
This AGINI conference considers the potential to enhance education and educational management in Northern Ireland using GI.
The morning sessions focus on how using spatial data can be integrated into a variety of subject areas to make teaching and learning more visual, more exciting while improving children's 'spatial and IT literacy', in order to equip individuals with the skills which will be needed by 'employees' of the future, while the afternoon is concerned with the potential for applying GI to improve the planning and delivery of education at a broader, more strategic level.
