AGI Northern Ireland Event - 15th October 2009

Delivering Better Services: Implementing the NI GI Strategy

The implementation of the NI Geographical Information (GI) Strategy 2009-2019 has the potential to deliver major cost savings, improved decision making and resource targeting right across the N. Ireland economy.

The NI GI Strategy 2009-2019 and associated strategies in the UK (the UK Location Strategy) and Europe (the EU INSPIRE Directive) are all significant developments that will affect the delivery of services throughout the wider economy. However, in many instances, there is still limited understanding of the content of the European Directive/aligned Strategies and what their implementation means for various sectors/organisations.

This limited understanding and awareness applies amongst GI practitioners and non-practitioners alike.

This AGINI conference aims - at various levels, to focus and elaborate upon how the regional (NI) Strategy is being implemented and how this Strategy can help improve business practice in the public and private sectors, as well as facilitate data sharing and project collaboration.

Focusing on examples of good practice - many at the regional (NI) level, this event will examine the first steps that are being taken to implement the NI GI Strategy within the four identified Strategic Action Areas, namely:
1. Realising the business benefits
2. Education, skills and staffing
3. Data sharing
4. Data collection and project collaboration

Owing to the wide-ranging scope of the NI GI Strategy, this event should equally be of interest to a wide range of delegates from both the public and private sectors.

In addition to networking opportunities, the event ultimately seeks to better inform individuals, groups and organisations on a range of topical areas to facilitate strategic business improvements and service delivery as well as raise awareness of statutory and other regulatory instruments within the 'location' sphere.
