AGI GeoCommunity ’09 – “Realising the Value of Place”
http://www.agi2009.com/
September 23th - 24th 2009, Holiday Inn, Stratford-upon-Avon
Deadline for submissions Friday 1st May 2009
Having returned to Chair the AGI conference in 2009 for a third and final time, I am delighted to invite you to respond to the 2009 conference Call-for-Papers.
The AGI conference is the biggest independent GI conference right at the heart of the UK event GI calendar and delivered by the nation’s dedicated GI membership association. Now well established as a centrally located residential conference, AGI GeoCommunity has become extremely popular. AGI GeoCommunity is ideally structured for a great diversity of activities; plenaries, keynotes, conference papers, workshops, debates, networking, social activities and much more.
In the 20th year of the AGI’s operation and with the development of a UK Spatial Data Infrastructure (UK SDI) now started, this year’s theme “Realising the Value of Place” will address the role of the GeoCommunity at a time of challenge and opportunity in a time of global economic flux. GI and GIS is ever more pervasive, its use ranging through Central and Local Government to utilities, infrastructure, marketing, insurance, retail, business intelligence and consumer applications. As the use of GI grows, its relevance and contribution to addressing the challenges in the modern world becomes ever more important and complex. As a community we want to show and articulate that diversity, importance and value.
The GI industry and GI users alike make a tremendous contribution to the commercial success and good governance of the United Kingdom. AGI GeoCommunity ’09 will provide an outstanding opportunity for all involved or interested in GI to network, share experience, educate and debate important issues and policy as well as develop and enhance skills through our conference training and workshop programme.
As a speaker at the AGI GeoCommunity ’09 conference you will have the best possible opportunity to raise the profile of your work, share your ideas, describe your activities and celebrate success and outstanding practice. Sharing, listening, learning and networking with your peers may be the one of the most significant personal development activities you can engage in during the year.
We are not just looking for conference papers, but also ideas for workshops and topical debates. The structure of the conference will be based around the themes and topics listed here. A range of topics have been suggested to stimulate your thinking but you should feel free to propose alternative topics that respond to the themes and overall focus of the conference “Realising the Value of Place”. I now invite you to submit papers that address these themes at any level, including those that crosscut and interrelate with each other.
The conference committee is looking for papers that demonstrate good knowledge and well argued opinion; cases that address project success, large and small; innovative or unusual approaches and examples of lessons learned and issues overcome.
AGI ’08 was highly regarded because of the quality of the papers presented; please join us now in making AGI GeoCommunity ’09 even better.
