3D Laser Mapping Offers SiteMonitor Leasing

Nottingham, UK, 11 March 2009 - The SiteMonitor mine mapping system, used to improve safety and increase production at mines around the world, is now being offered on flexible lease contracts. The move by UK based 3D Laser Mapping, who have developed the advanced laser scanning system, is aimed to reduce the reliance on capital funds enabling mine operators to finance this essential safety system from operating costs instead.

SiteMonitor uses the latest 1,000 metre range laser scanning technology to capture and continuously analyse highly accurate measurements for the continuous mapping of pit walls and mined material.

"We have responded to what our clients are telling us they need," commented Dr Graham Hunter, Managing Director of 3D Laser Mapping. "By offering a flexible solution with first class service and support without the requirement for capital expenditure means it is easier to maintain safety and performance in times of financial uncertainty."

The SiteMonitor leasing solution is being offered with either a 1 or 2-year contract together with attractive options to purchase at the end of the agreement. The end-to-end solution includes the complete state of the art laser scanning hardware, powerful operating software as well as installation, training and 3D Laser Mapping's Premium Technical Support package. Remote support, designed to ensure correct and continuous operation of the system in support of the work of onsite geotechnical engineers, is provided from 3D Laser Mapping's Global Operations Centre.

The SiteMonitor laser scanning system includes the latest long range laser scanners, which can capture up to 11,000 point measurements per second, to an accuracy of 10mm and at a range of up to 1,000 metres. A rugged and fully portable sensor the system also includes a calibrated and accurately orientated high-resolution digital camera. The data captured is analysed using 3D Laser Mapping's SiteMonitor analysis software, which tracks and compares displacement measurements over time, providing early warning of abnormal movement and therefore potential failures in the active mining area that may impact on production, cause damage to equipment or even injury to personnel.
