2010 NLPG and NSG Exemplar Awards Announced

Intelligent Addressing and Local Government Information House have announced the release of the 2010 NLPG and NSG Exemplar Awards. The awards recognise the innovation, effort, commitment and achievement of local authorities, police and fire services in the creation, maintenance and utilisation of the National Land & Property Gazetteer (NLPG) and the National Street Gazetteer (NSG).

Intelligent Addressing and Local Government Information House will jointly present the awards at a one day conference and exhibition ‘Everything Happens Somewhere’ which takes place at Cutlers’ Hall in Sheffield on 20th October 2010.

The NLPG and NSG are national datasets created and maintained on a daily basis by local government. The NLPG is used by local government and their partners in the fire and police and national parks services, to link their information and systems to transform and improve services whilst generating real operational savings. The NSG is the composite street index for the whole of England and Wales and is used by local government and those organisations that work on or around highways, as the definitive reference for co-ordinating street works and managing the road network.

The NLPG and NSG together form what is probably the largest single shared service in local government. Local government set in place this contractual framework to maintain and share the gazetteers among councils, police forces, fire services, national parks, conservation boards, passenger transport services, parish councils and local government run Local Education Authority (LEA) schools.
