1Spatial announces seminars on Data Management

1Spatial is holding a number of free WebEx seminars designed to help those in local and central government find out how they can achieve efficiency savings by managing spatial data effectively.

The WebEx’s will demonstrate a solution to enable the public sector to create a central repository of information that collates and integrates both internal and external sources of data, providing a reliable single source of truth that is easily maintained, consistent and fit for purpose.

The lynchpin of efficient spatial data management is data quality. 80-90% of all public sector data is spatially related, the quality of that data can seriously undermine the decisions that are made and funds that are allocated. Costly traditional methods have often pushed Spatial Data Quality initiatives onto the backburner; the seminar will demonstrate how 1Spatial can drive down cost whilst ensuring quality.

The key for data providers and distributors is to balance business as usual with challenging budgetary conditions, aspirational international standards, the requirements of EU legislation and Service Level Agreements. The seminar will show how, by effective spatial data management, this complex supply chain can be simplified within budgetary constraints using automated and rules-based solutions.

The seminars are designed for local and central government, those with a specific interest may include GIS and IT managers, corporate data managers, department heads with spatial data issues and change managers with programmes that make use of location information.

The 30 minute seminars take place at 11am with a focus on local government on the 13th and 20th November and central government on the 14th and 21st November.

Delegates can register by visiting http://www.1spatial.com/news_events/events/webex.php

Wyn Jenkins, Land & Property Information Manager, Staffordshire County Council, commented:
‘1Spatial have been instrumental in helping us put in place the processes and technologies to support a multi-platform GIS environment and ensure that we have fit for purpose, consistent and accurate data readily available across the organisation'

This month's burning issue:

MANAGING CLIMATIC RISK

Russell Osborne, Managing Director of Citizen Solutions for Northgate Public Services, comments on managing climate risk in the economic downturn.

During tough economic times, bold steps must be taken to ensure the long-term prosperity of the UK’s communities, economy and natural environment. As outlined in the 2008 Pre-Budget Report, the public sector is to act as the vehicle driving growth in the UK economy. We must make sure that… More…
