1Spatial announce Data Quality Health Check Lab fo

26th February 2008, Cambridge, UK. 1Spatial is pleased to announce that, in partnership with Salford GIS, they will be running a Data Quality Health Check Lab during their 2008 Conference: ‘1 Source of Truth’, being held from 29th April to 1st May at the Radisson SAS Hotel, Stansted Airport, UK.

The Data Quality Health Check Lab, a new and exciting initiative for the 2008 Conference, will be hosted by independent consultants Salford GIS and gives attendees the chance to bring their own sample spatial data to the Conference and have it put through a series of standard tests to assess its overall quality. Delegates will be shown how to run tests themselves and will receive a report detailing the results.

Standard datasets will be available but delegates are encouraged bring their own spatial data on DVD, CD, or other storage media*. All popular spatial data formats will be supported including:

· ESRI Shape
· MapInfo TAB
· Oracle SDO_Geometry

The Data Quality Health Check Lab offers a unique opportunity for delegates to examine ways to assess spatial data quality in a highly practical environment and to try out different techniques for themselves on their own datasets. Salford GIS Consultants will be on hand to explain the tests and to provide support to delegates. Participation is free throughout the duration of the conference but delegates are asked to pre-book time slots by emailing conference@1spatial.com

Nick Hall, Technical Director at Salford GIS said:

”We are delighted to be able to work with 1Spatial to offer this exciting opportunity for delegates to ‘health check’ their own data. As a forum for highlighting the importance of spatial data quality, the 1Spatial conference provides an excellent backdrop. We look forward to making the Data Quality Health Check Lab a valuable learning experience for conference delegates.”

Graham Stickler, Product and Marketing Director for 1Spatial added:

“Increasing pressures on spatial data, influenced by the broadening of access and recent EU directives that require data integration, have put data quality in the spotlight. Our work recently with the OGC Data Quality Working Group has highlighted this. Our aim here with the Data Quality Health Check Lab is to provide conference delegates with a practical insight into how data quality may be assessed using their own, existing data. We hope that delegates will take advantage of this unique learning opportunity.”

With sponsors including Oracle, Autodesk, Infotech, Blue Marble Geographics, eSpatial and Informatica, the 1Spatial Conference is set to deliver a comprehensive learning package for everyone working with spatial data, from expert Practitioners, through to Programmers and Chief Executive Officers. Focused discussions, presentations and workshops will help you to use your spatial data more effectively and efficiently; our comprehensive agenda will also include topics around integrating spatial data and building Spatial Data Infrastructures (SDIs).

Registration for the 1Spatial Conference 2008 is NOW OPEN, with an early bird discount available on bookings made on or before 1st March. To find out more and register, please visit www.1spatial.com/conference or contact the conference team on conference@1spatial.com

*Please note that data tested by delegates and the results of the tests will not be stored or shared.
