Earth Simulation Advances

Modelling Earthquakes with realistic simulation software allows scientists to develop an understanding of their nature. With the ultimate aim of more accurate prediction, researchers using 3D Finite Element Analysis (FEA) simulation tools have furthered their understanding through the usage of software techniques more often seen in automotive and aerospace development.

IN THE CURRENT ISSUE:

Why didn't scientists predict the earthquakes?

The earthquakes causing devastation in Haiti and in Chile at the beginning of 2010 have reminded us once more of the tremendous destructive power of nature.

Public safety in the aftermath of earthquakes

The ability to communicate directly with large and geographically dispersed populations is a key factor for emergency services and relief agencies alike.

Making Communities Safer

The main purpose of the Fire and Rescue Services in the UK is to provide an effective Emergency Service to the Community it serves. A key aspect of this is Community Safety and early intervention measures that can be introduced to reduce the risk of fire.
