locr GPS Photo for Symbian - Geotag Your Photos

July 17, 2007 - Now you can use your global positioning system (GPS)-enabled S60 device to add geographic information tags to the photos that you take, and to share them with others via the locr photo-sharing service. With the locr client applications for S60 3rd Edition or S60 2nd Edition devices, you can add geotagging information either automatically from your GPS device, or define the geotags manually. To geotag a photo manually, you simply highlight the place where it was taken on a digital map or on an aerial or satellite photograph and press the Enter button. Descriptions are automatically generated for every photo based on the geographical information. You can also add the geotagging information after a photo has been added to the locr Web site.

You can share these photos with friends and family, and the rest of the world, or you can designate them as part of your private collection. In this way, you can create a geo-referenced photo collection, and you can search on the geographic information to select photos that were taken in similar places. In addition to photos taken with your S60 imaging device, the same geotagging technology can be applied on the locr Web site to any photos taken with a standard digital camera. Thus, you will have access to not only the photos taken with your S60 imaging device, but also a wide variety of photos that have been captured by other means and stored on the locr Web site. The locr client software can be downloaded for free, and the basic locr photo-sharing service is also free. The company will generate its revenues from future value-added premium services. This Month's Burning Issue...
Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.
This month's burning issue:

What message are we sending to senior level decision makers about the importance and value of Spatial Data Infrastructure - SDI - if we keep misrepresenting what SDI is or is all about?

In previous editorials in this magazine I have touched on various SDI issues, especially now that the pan-European SDI has achieved a legally mandated status within the European Union's 27 Member States. Yet I fear that the Geographic Information community - or communities, for there are many - continue to… More…
