The National Biodiversity Data Centre, Ireland, is the biological records centre for Ireland and is part of a global network of such centres via the Global Biodiversity Information Facility.
Operating since 2007, the Centre has been active in the establishment of a data management and mapping system, in the undertaking of key studies on topics such as invasive species, climate change indicators, national species and vegetation inventories, and in related educational and engagement activities.
Who wants to be a millionaire? We do! We passed the million species records mark and with that surpassed our own expectations and schedules thanks to the support and collaboration of many organisations and recorders. Having one million records in the system, available for public viewing is an achievement that will be built on over coming months and years with the collation, creation, and loading of many more records. This data is intended to support informed decision making at local and national levels and to facilitate more efficient and accurate assessment of the status of our biodiversity.
The National Biodiversity Data Centre is operated under service level agreement by Compass Informatics on behalf of the Heritage Council, Ireland.
