January 12, 2009 - TomTom, a Dutch manufacturer of GPS navigation devices, introduced its first mobile internet-connected navigator, the GO 740 LIVE, at the recent Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
The new in-vehicle navigator features a built-in GPRS-based data link, allowing it to recommend the quickest route to a destination, based on constantly updated traffic reports. It also comes equipped for Google searches on the go, allowing users to pull up local information, gas prices, and weather forecasts.
Similar to its predecessor, the GO 730, the 740 LIVE has a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, built-in Bluetooth connectivity, and voice controls. It comes preloaded with maps of Canada and the United States (from TeleAtlas), and can load additional maps via a microSD slot.
The GO 740 LIVE will be available in the U.S. market in the second quarter of this year at a retail cost of $499, which includes a year-long subscription to TomTom’s mobile GPS network.

Adopting Cloud computing can save money, but good governance is essential to manage the risk argues Mike Small
