Wayfinder Extends Navigable Map Coverage NAVTEQ

NAVTEQ, a leading global provider of digital maps for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, has been chosen by Wayfinder to supply maps of Australia and New Zealand for its mobile applications. Previously Wayfinder has used NAVTEQ maps in Russia, Singapore, Australia, Middle East and South Africa for Nokia N810 Internet Tablet which has a Wayfinder map application pre-installed.

Based in Sweden, Wayfinder has developed into a leading provider of innovative GPS location and navigation services for connected mobile devices, with offices across Europe and over two million users stretching from North America to India. For its expansion into Australia and New Zealand, the company chose NAVTEQ map data due to its excellent quality and coverage.

“NAVTEQ data is built to a global quality specification which is comprehensive and offers a broad range of rich features making the users' experience an enjoyable one. Wayfinder has been very progressive in bringing to market these innovative products across so many regions, each of which has unique needs. This announcement is a credit to the company’s drive and determination in this very competitive and rapidly growing market," commented Rich Shuman, NAVTEQ senior vice president, APAC Sales.

NAVTEQ completed its full coverage of Australia in the summer of 2006 and since then has expanded its Australasian coverage to New Zealand using the largest team of navigation geographic analysts in the region.

“We need to have access to the most up to date map possible,” explained Magnus Nilsson, CEO of Wayfinder, “and NAVTEQ has the processes and resources in place to fulfill that requirement. Consequently we will be able to provide our customers with current, fresh data so the traveller can just relax and enjoy the trip!”
