Wayfinder - the next big thing in mobile gaming

With the ongoing introduction of GPS technology into mobile phones, an exciting market opportunity is emerging, creating great potential for location based entertainment and gaming. Finding different means of positioning a mobile user in his or her surroundings creates revolutionary ways of introducing the actual player as an essential part in the gaming experience.

Wayfinder, the leading supplier of innovative location and navigation services in mobile phones, is taking an active role in this trend by introducing a forum where game developers can create state of the art location oriented game experiences for a new market using core Wayfinder technology.

"We see a huge potential for location oriented entertainment and gaming in mobile phones. By giving access to our 3rd party APIs to the game developer community, we believe that we can help these developers save a substantial amount of time when creating Location Based or Alternate Reality Games, especially on the mapping, search and positioning side, says Jonas Sellergren, VP Innovations at Wayfinder.

The mobile game experience, where the real world becomes the media, is about to be revolutionized by the location element. This development will further increase the use of mobile devices and add an element of fun in the mobile usage for each person willing to play in the location gaming field.

Game developers can register at forum.wayfinder.com. The forum will give access to Wayfinder Location experts as well as to discussions among the registered game developers on the forum. On September 30, all resources needed to start development will be made available for those registered.

This Month's Burning Issue...
Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.
This month's burning issue:

How valuable are our efforts on SDIs if we don’t actively address the human issues? Think about all the government regulations, technical implementation plans, internal processes and procedures, data sharing networks and so on. These are arguably meaningless if there is no buy-in or understanding from the people who must deliver against them.

During the 1Spatial Conference 2008 where there was a large number of presentations on a wide range of important industry topics ranging from data quality, data integration and data maintenance to open source and INSPIRE. But there were very few presentations that focused on the human aspects of our business.… More…
