Topcon purchases leading German distributor IBS

CAPELLE AAN DEN IJSSEL, The Netherlands – Topcon Europe Positioning announced it has signed a binding agreement to acquire one of the company's top construction distributors, IBS of Hamburg, Germany.

The IBS company has been founded in 1978 by Hermann Ibs. Starting with construction laser sales, the company steadily grew to include the broad range of construction positioning products. Nowadays the 11 person company offers a full range of positioning and Machine Control solutions.

Outstanding reputation
“The choice to add this longstanding German dealer to the Topcon family is a logical one”, says Ewout Korpershoek of Topcon Europe Positioning. “IBS has an outstanding reputation in the field of Machine Control and for many years has been a dedicated dealer of Topcon’s innovative solutions. Adding their many years of knowledge in road construction to the Topcon organization will surely strengthen our position in Germany, and provide a solid foundation for further expansion of our activities in Northern Germany.”

Very content
IBS will become a full member of the Topcon organization and by partnering with Topcon in this way a win-win situation is created for both our customers and IBS’ staff. Hermann Ibs, Managing Director of IBS Gmbh says: “We have been selling Topcon’s innovative solutions for seven years now with a specialization in Machine Control. With this agreement, I feel extremely confident that we not only ensure the continuity at IBS, but also partner with the right company. Topcon has a long history of developing innovative solutions for the high accuracy positioning markets, which are advancing rapidly. Technology advances offer increased productivity and quality, but are also becoming more complex. I am very content to ensure the best future for our customers and staff, as Topcon has the products, resources and means to provide and support our business expansion.”

High quality
Ewout Korpershoek, European Director of Sales & Marketing adds; “IBS Gmbh has proven to be a professional, customer-oriented organization with an extremely dedicated and high quality staff. We are very proud that we can further build on that and that Hermann will continue to stay on and lead the company into the future.”

This Month's Burning Issue...
Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.
This month's burning issue:

What message are we sending to senior level decision makers about the importance and value of Spatial Data Infrastructure - SDI - if we keep misrepresenting what SDI is or is all about?

In previous editorials in this magazine I have touched on various SDI issues, especially now that the pan-European SDI has achieved a legally mandated status within the European Union's 27 Member States. Yet I fear that the Geographic Information community - or communities, for there are many - continue to… More…
