Topcon high-precision ‘MS’ measuring stations

Topcon high-precision ‘MS’ measuring stations

Capelle a/d IJssel, The Netherlands, March 16 2010, Topcon Europe Positioning B.V. announces the release of the MS05A and MS1A Measuring Stations – ultra-high-precision automatic total stations – in the European Market.

“Topcon Measuring Stations offer the highest level of precision and automatic capability that satisfies the increasing demands for higher accuracy, highly automated surveying, positioning and monitoring applications,” said Ian Stilgoe, geomatics business manager.

MS05A

The MS05A features the industry’s highest 0.5” angle accuracy. The sub-millimeter EDM measures up to 3,500m range with a single standard prism with 0.8mm + 1ppm precision and the typical measurement speed is 2.4 seconds. “High speed is one of the key advantages for long distance measurement, because atmospheric conditions tend to change while measurement is taken,” said Stilgoe.

Accuracy and range of MS05A:

• Reflective sheets: 0.5mm + 1ppm, up to 200m
• Standard prism: 0.8mm + 1ppm, up to 3,500m
• Reflectorless: 1mm + 1ppm, up to 100m

Stilgoe said, “The EDM and angle accuracy of this instrument make it ideal for monitoring in 3D even when targets are not available. Direct measurements without a reflector can be performed with the industry’s highest 1mm accuracy.”

MS1A

The MS1A is more suitable, Stilgoe said, for high-precision construction applications, providing 1” angle accuracy with 1mm distance precision.

“The increased reflectorless capability of the MS1A is ideal,” he said, “for wider construction application including tunnel profile measurement, and the range can be further increased with reflective sheets.

Accuracy and range of MS1A

• Reflective sheets: 1mm + 1ppm, up to 300m
• Standard prism: 1mm + 1ppm, up to 3,500m
• Reflectorless: 3mm + 1ppm, up to 200m

Automatic Capability

Topcon Measuring Stations provide Automatic functionality with Auto-Tracking and Auto-Pointing. In addition to a prism, the MS automatically points to reflective sheets reducing installation costs on large monitoring projects.

The Measuring Stations implement the Auto-Pointing algorithm optimized for monitoring applications that constantly sights the prism closest to the telescope center, even if multiple prisms or reflectors are in the field of view. “This feature remarkably enhances the reliability of periodic monitoring with predetermined targets,” said Stilgoe.

Long-range Laser Option

The LSP1 laser beam emitter can be built into the telescope of the MS05A/MS1A models. The bright laser beam can be utilized for automatic profile projection on tunnel faces as well as various stakeout tasks in underground constructions. Narrow parallel beam reaches up to 700m. Beam diameter is as small as 30mm at 200m distance.

Other Hardware Features

• Perfectly aligned laser pointer using EDM beam for precise guidance
• Target illumination LED is built into the telescope to easily locate the reflectors
• IP64 rating of dust/water protection

The MS05A/MS1A Measuring Stations are available now through authorized Topcon distributors in European market.
