Topcon FC-250: ‘Next-generation’ field controller

Topcon FC-250: ‘Next-generation’ field controller

Capelle a/d IJssel, The Netherlands, February 4th, 2010, Topcon Europe Positioning B.V. introduces ‘next-generation’ field controller technology with its new FC-250. The FC-250 is designed to give users increased power and performance in a rugged and compact unit.

The FC-250 has the operating system power of the latest Windows Mobile® Version 6.5. The PC performance with 806MHz processor and 256MB SDRAM is designed to significantly speed up data collection in the field. The FC-250 also has a built-in Bluetooth® modem and wireless LAN capability as standard features.

Scott Langbein, TPS senior product manager, said, “The FC-250 is not a simple improvement over the successful FC-200. It offers improved graphics and user-interface as well as the highest PC performance ideal for handling video images. It offers a blazing-fast processor – lists work better, and the speed is fast.

“When used with Topcon’s IS Imaging Station, the FC-250 displays real-time images transferred from the IS via wireless LAN, allowing users to work with live images. This feature will certainly drive forward one-person survey technology,” Langbein said.

“While the FC-250 is extremely compact, it is truly ‘heavy duty.’ Rated at an IP66, inclement weather is not a deterrent to using the FC-250,” Langbein said.

Additional features of the FC-250 include:
-- 3.7” touch-screen display;
-- Optional Spread Spectrum Radio (RS-1) can be attached;
-- Optional long-range Bluetooth modem (RS-1B) can be attached;
-- Quick access to swap the battery;
-- SD and CF card slots; and
-- USB, and DE-9 com ports.

Langbein said, “Topcon has listened to customers and distributors to design this compact field controller with features that are invaluable to increased efficiency in the field. The FC-250 is a very rugged, advanced, affordable and powerful field controller for today’s market. The FC-250’s easy-to-navigate, intuitive user interface is another definite benefit that allows every user, including new Topcon users, to easily utilize full functionality of all Topcon GNSS receivers, total stations and Imaging Station.”
