Institute for Information Industry in Taiwan recently selected SuperGIS Mobile Engine, a mobile GIS SDK, for developing a personal botanic tour guide, E-Narrator. With the release of E-Narrator, the tourist can be assisted in recognizing the fern ecology in Beitou easily.
Yinguang Lane in Beitou, Taipei, is a famous tourist location due to its abundant hot spring resource. It also attracts many tourists to enjoy the hot spring every year. In addition to the hot spring, there are various types of fern growing in the lane. However, these plants may easily confuse tourists. In order to introduce the fern ecology in Beitou to more people, SuperGeo and Institute for Information Industry, Taiwan launches the E-Narrator.
E-Narrator is the service integrating the GPS navigation system and handheld devices, such as smart phone and PDA. As long as the tourists taking the handheld device with built-in GPS chip walk in the trail and approach the plant whose data have been built up, the system will automatically play the audio and text guide of the plant. Meanwhile, the picture of the plant will be also displayed on the screen to help tourists to recognize the plant clearly.
E-Narrator is the location based electronic guide service utilizing SuperGIS Mobile Engine as the development core. SuperGIS Mobile Engine has highly flexible development structure and multiple GIS objects for developing mobile GIS applications effortlessly. With collocating with GPS navigation system, as the tourist approaches some plant, E-Narrator will automatically remind the tourists with audio sound to read the information and listen to the guide. Therefore, the tourists can obtain the abundant information conveniently in the trip.
The technical trail guide is a long term scheme. Thus, tourists visiting Beitou can not only enjoy the hot spring but also rent a smart phone from some hot spring hotels in Yinguang lane, such as Asia Pacific Resort, Lotus Spa, and Spa Spring Resort, to let E-Narrator help you to recognize the old plants which have been existed since Jurassic era.
Once you walk nearby the plant which is positioned, E-Narrator will automatically play the audio sound, texts, and pictures for you to recognize the plant.
