SuperGIS Applied to Marine Biology and Fishery

SuperGeo Technologies, the leading global provider of complete GIS software and solutions, today announced that National Kaohsiung Marine University selected SuperGIS Desktop, plus Spatial Analyst and Biodiversity Analyst, for the research in marine biology.

Surrounded by ocean, Taiwan is an island full of fishery resources. Therefore, pelagic fishing has contributed to the economic development in Taiwan since 1960s. The Department of Fisheries Production and Management at National Kaohsiung Marine University planned to study the various fish and marine creatures by employing GIS technologies, hoping to discover more about marine creatures and increase the fish productivity.

The Department then procured SuperGIS, the powerful Desktop GIS software developed by SuperGeo Technologies, plus Spatial Analyst and Biodiversity Analyst, to analyze the researching marine biology and display the biodiversity data on the GIS platform. The platform clearly demonstrates the numbers, distribution, and basic information of different fish, so the students can learn the habitual behaviors of the fish more.

Biodiversity Analyst is an analysis extension in SuperGIS Desktop, aiming to examine spatial and attribute data, as well as the biodiversity properties, in order to explore the features and distribution of various creatures. It was also applied to the Wild Creature Data Survey System by Endemic Species Research Institute - see the link below.
