Space technology to strengthen science, education

Models of integration of Russian higher education institutions based on educational centers of space monitoring, possibilities of partnership between educational institutions and employers, specifics and perspectives of the continuous education system development (school-university-refresher courses) will be discussed at the session “Education, science and business integration for sustainable development” that is to take place on December 3 during the 4th International Conference “Earth from Space – the Most Effective Solutions”.

Session chairmen:

— Vasily Malinnikov, Rector of the Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography;
— Vladislav Sergeev, General Director of ОАО “Samara-Informsputnik”;
— Evgeny Kapralov, Assistant Professor of the Department of Cartography and Geoinformatics of the St-Petersburg State University;
— Hose-Louis Casanova, Professor of the Valladolid University (Spain).

Rector of the Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography Professor Vasily Malinnikov will tell about the development of the system of staffing support of national infrastructure of spatial data and space positioning. Please be reminded that on May 26, 2009 the Innovation Science-Educational Center “Geomonitoring” was established at the Department of Applied Cosmonautics and Photogrammetry with the support of ScanEx RDC. This Center is intended for the solution of a set of tasks: students preparation improvement, specialists refresher training in sphere of remote sensing data processing, natural resources studies using aerospace methods, photogrammetry and Geoinformatics, as well as strengthening of integration of industrial-technological and scientific-educational processes. Alexander Grechischev – Head of the “Geomonitoring” Center - will share the details about its operations during the Conference.

Fyodor Surkov will speak about the operations of the Center of Space Monitoring of Southern Federal University. In December 2008 the «UniScan» ground receiving station was installed and put into operation in the SFU. It became the central link in the creation of the Space Monitoring center at the University. Besides handling data, received from MODIS sensors of Terra and Aqua satellites, the Center has the educational geoportal, developed based on the popular kosmosnimki.ru web service. Within the frames of this educational geoportal IKONOS highly-detailed images (resolution 0,8 m) are available for the territory of Rostov-upon-Don, IRS-1C/1D data at 5,8 m resolution for the entire Rostov Region area, as well as Landsat 7 data (resolution 15 m) for the whole Southern Federal District. The UniScan receiving complex enables to add and to update geoportal data in real-time mode.

As of today, the participation in this session was confirmed by the representatives of the Moscow State University of Geodesy and Cartography, Lomonosov Moscow State University, Samara State Aerospace University, St-Petersburg State University, St-Petersburg State University of Aerospace Instrumentation, Tver, Tula, Perm, Volgograd and Belarus State Universities, Southern Federal University, “Dubna” International University of Nature, Society and Man, Russian State Hydrometeorological University, Arkhangelsk State Technical University, Russian State University after Kant (Kaliningrad), Siberian State Aerospace University after Reshetnev, Estonian University of Natural Sciences, Melbourne Royal Technical Institute (Australia), Yamanashi University (Japan), Warsaw University of Natural Sciences (Poland), University of Helsinki (Finland), Valladolid (Spain), International British University, Jena University (Germany), Milano Polytechnic University (Italy).

4th International Conference “Earth from Space – the Most Effective Solutions” will take place on December 1-3, 2009 in the Moscow Region “Vatutinki” recreation center of the RF President Administration. The conference organized biennially by ScanEx RDC and NGO Transparent World, got the name of the largest in Russia and CIS in sphere of practical application of space information. In 2007, over 330 people took part in it from Russia and 32 world countries. The central topics of the conference are as follows: region management in the conditions of economic recession, nature protection monitoring, Internet and geo-information systems, data processing technology and tools, education, science and business integration for sustainable development. Registration form on the conference web-site needs to be filled in for partaking. We would be glad to see you among the participants!
