On 16 January, Sony Ericcson announced sharp Q4 losses of nearly 248 million USD (much worse than Q3) and nearly 97 million USD for the year.
Revenue was $3.86 billion for the quarter and $14.9 billion for the year.
Shipments in Q4 were 24.2 million phones, compared to 25.7 million in Q3 and 30.8 million a year ago. Annual shipments for 2008 were 96.6 million phones, compared to 103.4 million in 2007.
Company President Hideki Komiyama said the economic conditions would be a continuing factor into the first half of 2009 but that recent layoffs helped.
During Q4, Sony Ericsson joined the Google-led Open Handset Alliance (OHA), and plans to develop an Android phone, plus launch of the Xperia X1 and Cyber-shot C905 phones.
