7th October 2008, Aylesbury – ESRI (UK), the UK’s leading provider of Geographic Information Systems (GIS), today announced the SDI and INSPIRE speaker line-up for this year’s Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) User Conference. Running from 28-30 October at London’s QEII Conference Centre, over 1,000 delegates from 60 countries will attend the conference, one of the principal events in the EMEA GIS industry calendar.
“This year’s SDI Mapping and Cadastral Agencies Track programme is a real-life showcase for the far-reaching benefits of GIS, underlining how indispensable it has become,” commented Richard Waite, Managing Director, ESRI (UK). “GIS visionaries will be sharing examples of the positive business benefits GIS can bring – at department level, company-wide or even to the industry sector itself – enabling others in the GIS community to benefit.”
More than 20 organisations from the SDI and INSPIRE sector are speaking at the conference, demonstrating the conference’s theme of ‘GIS for everyday life’, including:
• Defra – ‘UK INSPIRE implementation strategy’
• European Commission – INSPIRE: Progress in building the European SDI
• National Land Service Lithuania – ‘Development of Lithuanian GI infrastructure’
• European Environment Agency – ‘Spatial data infrastructure maintenance’
• Ordnance Survey – ‘Meeting the challenge for integrated maintenance and interoperable products’
• Registers of Scotland – ‘The automatic classification of property types’
• Government of Punjab – ‘A new strategy to introduce SDI initiatives in the Government of Punjab, Pakistan’
The SDI and INSPIRE Industry Track programme will be running on day two and three of the ESRI EMEA User Conference (Wednesday 29 and Thursday 30 October 2008) following the opening day plenary session on Tuesday 28 October, where Jack Dangermond, President of ESRI Inc, will be joined by keynote speakers including David Shukman, BBC Environment and Science correspondent.
