Russian Space Technologies Attracts Education Comm

Representatives of ScanEx RDC took part in the GeoTunis-2009 Exhibition, which was held in the capital of the Tunis Republic from 16 through 20 December.

The exhibition took place in the framework of the International Congress “GeoTunis-2009” held under the patronage of the President of Tunis. The event was organized by the Tunisian Association for the Digital Geographic Information (ATIGN) in conjunction with Tunisian private companies. “Survey of the water resources and desertification using the geographic information systems and remote sensing” was the primary subject of the Congress GeoTunis-2009.

The Congress was attended by over 500 representatives from 56 countries in Asia, America, Africa, Middle East and Europe. Many participants including representatives of higher educational institutions showed considerable interest in Russian developments of ScanEx RDC in the area of space technologies and specifically in the special offer of the company for equipping universities with UniScan stations for receiving and processing space data.

As you know since 2009 ScanEx Center has been exercising the possibility of equipping foreign universities with technologies for receiving Earth remote sensing data of high resolution (up to 1.8 m) in real time. Participants of the world educational community can purchase the http://www.scanex.ru/en/stations/default.asp?submenu=uniscan&id=index universal station for receiving space data already complete with licenses for the right to receive 100 scenes of EROS A, 600 minutes of IRS-1D and unlimited access to SPOT 4 images in the first year of operation. Initial inclusion of the license in the functionality of UniScan hardware and software complex (pursuant to agreements with the operators of respective Earth remote sensing programs) leads to significant cost reduction of receiving complex and space imagery for universities. As a result the world universities will be able to effectively utilize the state-of-the-art space technologies in their educational process and scientific research by working with up-to-date satellite data received at their own stations with the footprint of up to 2.5 thousand kilometers in radius.

In the course of the exhibition GeoTunis-2009 specialists of ScanEx RDC demonstrated current capabilities for using space imagery materials including those for implementing the tasks of monitoring water entities, control and assessment of consequences of soil desertification and degradation.

During the exhibition Russian space technologies of ScanEx RDC were demonstrated to Minister of Ecology and Sustainable Development of Tunis as well as to Minister of Social Affairs of the country.
