Rockford Map Publisher Select TerraGo Technologies

BELVIDERE, IL and ATLANTA, GA – August 28, 2008 – Rockford Map Publishers, Inc., the leading provider of land ownership and plat data for professional markets in both the public and private sectors, has selected TerraGo Technologies, the visionary provider of tools, technology and know-how for building collaborative geospatial applications (GeoApps), to provide interactive electronic mapping solutions to enhance the digital production of its plat maps.

Rockford Map Publishers’ plat books display current land ownership information including acreage and parcel boundaries, an index to owners, an index to roads and a general highway map as standard features. Other useful features contained in the plat book are aerial imagery and a latitude and longitude grid system on each page.

TerraGo’s Map2PDF® software solution and the TerraGo Toolbar expand capabilities for plat book users, enabling them to merge maps and images from various sources; integrate content and annotations; and configure functionality and workflows (GeoApps), using geo-enabled PDF files. Customers are able to create maps with up-to-date, detailed land ownership information and export the plat data to a geo-enabled PDF file that can easily be viewed, manipulated and distributed with others in the field and at home base.

“Due to the growing popularity of GPS systems, the aerial imagery as well as latitude and longitude grid system features contained in our plat books have had widespread appeal to users,” said Suzanne Young, president of Rockford Map Publishers. “By providing this same data in a geo-enabled PDF, we are able to offer a new digital medium that allows for a more functional product for our customers.”

“TerraGo’s easy to use, collaborative software solution provides for a precision method enabling customers to create highly accurate plat maps,” said Howard Klayman, director of federal programs, TerraGo Technologies. “Users can delineate property information by tracing shapefiles over aerial imagery and load these shapefiles into GPS systems. Field users can access the GeoApps on local kiosks and export the polygon as a shapefile.”
