Veldhoven, January 10, 2008 – NAVTEQ is to provide the map data for NAVIGON’s new PNA (Personal Navigation Assistant) Porsche Design Navigation Device P'9611. Created in conjunction with Porsche Design, the navigation system combines purist design, outstanding functionality and high precision. By employing the NAVTEQ-supplied data, NAVIGON continues its long-term and successful cooperation with the map data supplier.
Featuring a timeless and purist design and high value materials for the housing as well as inside electronic components, the P’9611 visually enhances any dashboard. But it’s not just in regard to its smart design that the electronic driving assistant makes its mark. NAVIGON’s MobileNavigator6 software provides a high level of functionality and precision. In utilising digital map data from NAVTEQ, the P’9611 is able to provide navigation data for 38 Western and Eastern European countries, and guides seamlessly across national borders thanks to the standardised map-data specification. In addition, the NAVTEQ map data includes Extended Lane attributes, which allows the PNA-assisted driver to navigate crossroads and motorway exits with ease: when the driver approaches a complicated junction, the navigation system shows which lane is most convenient through the use of precise acoustic and visual signals.
Interaction with the device takes place through the intuitive menu on the large touch screen display. The P’9611 provides not just an ultra-sensitive GPS receiver but also a powerful Bluetooth hands-free facility. And thanks to digital map data from NAVTEQ, the PNA offers TMC (Traffic Message Channel) functionality – so that drivers can avoid wasting time in traffic jams – as well as more than two million POIs (Points of Interest) such as restaurants, hotels and retail outlets. Both, TMC functionality and POIs, provide that the straightforward trip from A to B becomes a comfortable and interesting journey. Another convenient feature of the new PNA is the automatic adjustment of the volume of voice instructions to take into account driving noise.
The Porsche Design P'9611 Navigation Device is now available for 795 Euros (recommended retail price) from Porsche Design Stores, selected specialist retailers and online from NAVIGON.

Adopting Cloud computing can save money, but good governance is essential to manage the risk argues Mike Small
