PTV Intertour 5.9 at IAA Commercial Vehicles

Karlsruhe, August 28, 2008. Professional software optimises trip planning and cuts transport costs. PTV Intertour 5.9 now even improves the optimisation process. with the help of the new MEFISTO planning engine (Meta Heuristic Framework for Optimization), which was developed in close cooperation with the University of Karlsruhe. It allows additional optimisation methods for specific planning tasks to be integrated into the process. Now, dispatchers can solve complex tasks, such as the delivery of goods in city centres, while reducing time and mileage. With a lack of qualified truck drivers and toll and fuel prices so high, these methods help to substantially cut costs.

PTV will be presenting these and other transport solutions at IAA, stand E04 in hall 24.

The granular tabu search method for post-optimisation is integrated into PTV Intertour using MEFISTO. Therefore, the software allows users to carry out additional optimisation calculations. They are particularly helpful for dispatchers who have to plan trips including specific restrictions, such as narrow time slots, specific requirements the vehicle has to fulfill, different vehicle locations or open trip structures. This method assists users in improving planning accuracy for the delivery of goods in city centres, for example.

Post-optimisation is based on the trip schedule which is generated with the help of PTV Intertour's fast standard scheduling system. The planner can individually control additional optimisation runs and select the improved planning result. The current planning status, the optimisation effect and the corresponding trip costs are displayed on the screen during the entire post-optimisation process. The planner can therefore see the impacts of each optimisation run on the costs.
