Optech acquires photogrammetric camera company

Toronto, Canada, June 7, 2010 — Optech Incorporated, the world’s leading manufacturer of advanced lidar survey instruments, announced today that it has acquired the operations and assets of DiMAC sprl, inventor of the patented DiMAC true Forward Motion Compensation technology.

“Photogrammetric imagery and lidar data collection technologies are quickly merging, becoming a single mainstream technology,” said Don Carswell, Optech’s President. “This combination of industry-leading camera imaging technology, with Optech’s recognized lidar technology leadership, is the logical next step in serving the aerial survey marketplace. We recognize the demand to extend our customer-oriented products and support approach, given the increasing importance of camera integration with lidar systems and the natural benefit to our clients of having a single provider for their airborne imaging instrument needs.”

DiMAC has been providing large and medium-format airborne camera systems based on its patented true Forward Motion Compensation technology for over five years. DiMAC products include the DiMAC ULTRALiGHT+ featuring a 60-Megapixel sensor, the DiMAC LiGHT+ with 8,900 pixels across by 6,700 pixels along the flight line, and the DiMAC WiDE+ large-format digital aerial camera, which captures a footprint of 13,000 pixels across by 8,900 pixels along the flight line by using just two adjacent camera modules.

“We are very pleased to now be part of Optech’s growing organization,” says Julien Losseau, Managing Director of DiMAC sprl. “The product excellence and support that Optech is known for will now be extended to all of DiMAC’s products and customers.”

DiMAC's current product line will be maintained and enhanced. The DiMAC offices in Charleroi, Belgium, will remain DiMAC’s worldwide headquarters, and are being expanded to accommodate Optech’s European operations for sales and customer support of the ALTM product line. Mr. Losseau will continue in his current position, and provide further management guidance to Optech’s extension into the EU and adjacent countries.
