Océ PRISMAprepare one of best application designs

Venlo, The Netherlands, 2 September 2008 — Océ, an international leader in digital document management, today announced that an authoritative industry expert has chosen Océ PRISMAprepare software as one of the top 10 best-designed applications of 2008.

Award winning OCEAN printshop user interface installed in Océ PRISMAprepare software helped ensure the application was one of only four PC based winners chosen by the Nielsen Norman Group. Their competition was the first to identify the 10 best-designed application user interfaces.

This independent Silicon Valley based user experience expert sought nominations from all over the world. From numerous entries, just four PC based applications were chosen as winners. Océ PRISMAprepare was one of them. The other finalists were web based solutions.

Award winning complexity-free software

The announcement is further recognition of the award winning Océ OCEAN look and feel concept, which is at the heart of the Océ PRISMAprepare application.

In announcing the winners, Nielsen Norman said: "Printshops are stacked with increasingly more technical reproduction technology. Customers’ expectations have also increased over the years. Océ has concentrated on the end result rather than the technology which creates the product, thus leading to an intuitive and visually representative product that can expand as machine capabilities improve."

Customers benefit from more professional product

"Due to its highly representative interface, machine operators coming from either a print or PC background should be equally able to understand the interface and how changes on the screen will affect the end result, thus enabling them to produce a more professional product for their customers," according to their report.

Nielsen Norman argued that using the technology to simplify users’ tasks by, for example, re-stacking already printed pages in a spare paper hopper ready for insertion later, shows an appreciation of what machines do well (repetitive tasks requiring accuracy) and what users do well (document layout and cleanup, and big picture issue detection).

Océ leads market in software design usability
Océ International Product Manager Software, ErnstJan de Bruin is delighted with the recognition PRISMAprepare has gained.

"Following the iF International Forum Design communication design award for Océ OCEAN user interface in 2006, this Nielsen Norman Group award for the PRISMAprepare application is a testimony that the Océ Industrial Design department is ahead of the market with the usability of the OCEAN concept," he said.

Consistency in brand guarantees user experience

Océ is developing this brand proposition in more and more Océ products, creating a clear advantage for end users in terms of easier interaction and consistency of use on Océ software and hardware.
