Northgate wins major public housing contract

Northgate wins major public housing contract

31st October 2007 - Northgate Information Solutions plc (“Northgate”) announced today that it extended its eight year relationship with the Government of New South Wales (“NSW”) Australia by signing a new five year contract to provide a broad range of information management and customer-focused services for public housing.

The contract with the NSW Department of Housing is worth in excess of £8 million (AU$20 million). It will provide Northgate’s world class housing solution to manage the State’s entire housing stock comprising 140,000 properties and worth AU$28 billion.

Under the agreement, the NSW Department of Housing will be able to deliver enhanced public housing services to the citizens and local communities of the State through:

* improved access to and consistency of key housing information and advice, enabling staff to improve the quality of the services they provide to tenants.

* further improved self-service channels for tenants to interact with the Department;

* enhanced efficiency of asset management and maintenance;

* improved access for partner organisations to facilitate better and more efficient outcomes for existing tenants and applicants for housing.

Northgate will provide training material and a skills transfer service for the Housing NSW Training Team, facilitating the up-skilling of up to 2500 employees of the Housing NSW Organisation.

Speaking today, Housing NSW Director General, Mike Allen, said: “Housing NSW is committed to building stronger communities by providing housing solutions for people in need. We are pleased to join with Northgate to realise this project, having sought a partner organisation both passionate about the importance of public housing and with hands-on experience in delivering innovative and continuously improving services.”

Joe Bradley, Managing Director of Local Government & Social Housing at Northgate Public Services, added: “We are delighted to have been awarded this prestigious and significant public services contract within the Asia Pacific. This marks a major step forwards in building upon our eight year collaborative partnership with the NSW Government. Our housing management service is already operating in over 100 public organisations across the world, and we will work with the Government to provide an innovative, effective and efficient public housing service to meet the current and future needs of the community.”

This Month's Burning Issue...
Each month we select a hot topic and a leading figure in the industry to write about it.
This month's burning issue:

What message are we sending to senior level decision makers about the importance and value of Spatial Data Infrastructure - SDI - if we keep misrepresenting what SDI is or is all about?

In previous editorials in this magazine I have touched on various SDI issues, especially now that the pan-European SDI has achieved a legally mandated status within the European Union's 27 Member States. Yet I fear that the Geographic Information community - or communities, for there are many - continue to… More…
