Chicago – August 27, 2009 – NAVTEQ, a leading global provider of digital map data for location-based solutions and vehicle navigation, today announced its selection by Nextar® for their new 43LT GPS navigation unit. Nextar is working with NAVTEQ® to provide users lifetime free traffic with advertising and special promotions offered to users based on their location.
Delivered through NAVTEQ LocationPoint™, a location based advertising platform, Nextar is able to offer valuable content to drivers where and when they need it. The lifetime live traffic reports are displayed on NAVTEQ maps at no additional charge and are available right out of the box. No activation or annual subscription is required as the special feature works through the ad-funded traffic service from NAVTEQ. The Nextar unit, model 43LT, has a SRP in the United States of $169.
“With NAVTEQ LocationPoint Advertising, we have the ability to offer an affordable Personal Navigation Device (PND) with a free lifetime subscription of real-time traffic reports,” said Eddy Zheng, Nextar founder. “NAVTEQ’s live traffic reports and ability to reroute drivers around traffic incidents is a great fit for Nextar. Together we’re responding to the needs of budget conscious consumers looking to save both time and money when they drive.”
NAVTEQ is uniquely suited to deliver and manage this turnkey offering given its role as a leader in location content and services, its relationships with hundreds of advertising partners and its ability to distribute attractive dynamic advertising inventory.
“Our relationship with Nextar represents how NAVTEQ is leveraging its strong location based services industry position to set new standards in PND advertising,” said Christopher Rothey, vice president market development and advertising for NAVTEQ. “Benefiting from the full complement of NAVTEQ’s advertising services and sales force, we’re able to help provide drivers with a free lifetime subscription of real-time traffic reports.”
