New cost saving tools for desktop site assessment

New cost saving tools for desktop site assessment

11 August 2009 - In a move that delivers a powerful new perspective for engineers, planners, property developers, architects and surveyors aiming to improve decision making and efficiency by analysing detailed site information without leaving their desks, centremapslive.com has added BlomURBEX into its range of desktop site assessment products. A first key partnership agreement for BlomURBEX developer, Blom Aerofilms, it releases an extensive free-to-view library of high quality vertical and oblique aerial photography through centremapslive.com, imagery that comes with an integrated measurement tool, and the opportunity to take vertical and horizontal measurements between points on the imagery, with a price tag of just £10+VAT.

With the accessibility created by centremapslive.com, BlomURBEX data is now instantly and readily available and can be used to help make early informed decisions that may pre-empt site visits, saving time and money. It opens the door to everyone who might benefit from the ability to quantify information such as height length and areas of building, structures or parcels of land. It can be used to measure and inform on issues for estimating costs and materials, sites access for certain plant or equipment or removal of spoil or waste, also providing data that can be used to understand sightlines and shadows

Mark Walker, Managing Director of Centremaps comments: “BlomURBEX is an exciting innovation that makes it possible to identify assets and facilities in significant detail. Even lamp posts and telegraph poles are visible and you can measure clearances and building heights as never before. The full potential is still unfolding before our eyes but it is already clear that it offers benefits to a whole range of professionals working in the construction, security, public sector, environmental management and utilities sectors.”

Working across standard browsers and operating systems and requiring no additional software, BlomURBEX delivers a level of functionality that was previously often only available to one or two users in an organisation and often prohibited by initial data costs stretching to hundreds of thousands of pounds.

Imagery in the unprecedented library of high quality vertical and oblique photography is dated and all has been captured within the last three years at 15cm resolution. It details 1000 cities and towns throughout Europe, more than 120 of which are in the UK, all viewable from an oblique angle from North, South, East or West. New data capture is already underway, promising resolutions of up to 10cm and providing further levels of detail and measurement accuracy.

Gavin Lewis of Blom Aerofilms complimented the simplicity of access achieved through the partnership with centremapslive.com. “We are really excited about this partnership which makes BlomURBEX functionality and its fantastic imagery now fully available for the first time. Centremaps.live recognised the potential in BlomURBEX from very early on and we’re really pleased that they have achieved such an effective integration of our core system in their user friendly web-based solution.”

“BlomURBEX is a powerful solution in its own right and will I’m sure, be a first stop for many looking at new sites,” suggests Andy Terry, Systems Manager at centremapslive.com. “This style of information gathering is a natural addition to our existing product range, backed up by large scale mapping from Ordnance Survey, utilities information and a catalogue of vertical imagery dates together with supporting environmental reports provided by GroundSure and geology from the British Geological Survey.”
