New Zealand Land Database uses ERDAS APOLLO

Norcross, Georgia (USA) — ERDAS announces that Terralink International Limited has selected ERDAS APOLLO to manage and deliver its massive amounts of vector and raster data.

Based in Wellington, Terralink has the most comprehensive and accurate physical land database of New Zealand. Within this database resides a compliment of topographic, legal and physical property, address data, and New Zealand’s largest store of high-resolution aerial imagery, which is used to offer and produce value added products and GIS services for its customers.

With such an extensive and growing volume of imagery, maps and terrain data, Terralink recognized their need to create a self-updating catalog of all available data. This catalog would provide internal customers with facilities to quickly find any required information and facilitate its consumption by a diverse range of spatial and business systems. In addition, this catalog needed to offer the flexibility to be extended in the future to provide similar capabilities to external customers in a secure environment.

After evaluating several technologies, Terralink selected ERDAS APOLLO Image Manager to catalog and deliver its terabytes of imagery. ERDAS APOLLO is an out-of-the-box, standards-based Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) solution that efficiently manages and quickly serves massive amounts of geospatial data located and distributed across an organization. ERDAS APOLLO simplifies the utilization of vector, raster and terrain data, seamlessly integrating with existing GIS environments, leveraging business systems and supporting almost any kind of data input (including ArcSDE, PostGIS & Oracle). With a Service Oriented Architecture (SOA), ERDAS APOLLO is fully equipped with publishing and consuming capabilities.

Terralink International General Manager Greg Huddleston said ERDAS APOLLO was selected because it offered the most complete solution out of the box with minimal need for customization. “With ERDAS APOLLO Image Manager, Terralink will be able to greatly streamline our imagery storage, catalogue and delivery processes, and offer an even faster and more comprehensive service to our customers,” Mr. Huddleston said. “Our customers want timely, accurate and complete data, and with ERDAS APOLLO they’ll be able to access our data, how, when and wherever they want to.”

Mr. Huddleston said the image data management service was the first of its kind to be offered commercially in New Zealand with such a comprehensive volume of high-resolution imagery.

With International Organization of Standardization (ISO) and Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standards compliance and open technology, ERDAS APOLLO is a fully customizable solution. In addition, ERDAS APOLLO includes the automated catalog maintenance facilities Terralink required. Combined with its flexibility and comprehensive security capabilities, ERDAS APOLLO completely met all of Terralink’s current and future business requirements.

“By implementing ERDAS APOLLO, Terralink is now able to efficiently manage, store and share their large volumes of data throughout the enterprise,” said Kaushik Chakraborty, Vice President AP, ERDAS. “With standards based technology, ERDAS APOLLO simplifies the delivery of geospatial information to Terralink’s customers using a variety of GIS applications.”
