New Patent Taps Geosemble’s Core Technology

EL SEGUNDO, Calif. March 25, 2010 – Geosemble Technologies®, Inc., announced today that a patent recently issued to the University of Southern California has been assigned to Geosemble for its exclusive, worldwide use.

The patent, titled “Geospatial Data Fusion,” was originally written and submitted by Geosemble founders Dr. Craig Knoblock and Dr. Cyrus Shahabi while working on behalf of the University of Southern California in 2004. Geosemble was formed that year to commercialize this technology, as well as additional technology the company has subsequently developed.

Speaking on the recently issued patent, co-inventor Dr. Craig Knoblock, noted that “Among the invention’s innovative steps is map-imagery conflation that utilizes common vector datasets as ‘glue’ to automatically integrate street maps with imagery. This approach provides automatic, accurate, and intelligent images that combine the visual appeal and accuracy of imagery with the detailed attribution information contained in diverse maps.”

Since its founding in 2004, Geosemble has been building its intellectual property portfolio on geospatial data integration. Since 2007, the company has been developing GIS (Geographic Information Systems) applications, like GeoXray, that integrate various textual sources automatically into aerial imagery. GeoXray system users simply click on displayed buildings and locations to automatically view associated events and activities. The system targets enterprise customers, and is deployed by federal government agencies and municipalities.

Silicon Valley-based intellectual property law firm Carr and Ferrell manages and advises the company on IP matters.

About Geosemble

It also provides enterprises and vertical commercial markets with enhanced geographically-enabled business intelligence software. The company is a strategic Google® Earth Enterprise Partner, developer in the Oracle® PartnerNetwork, an In-Q-Tel portfolio company, and a DARPA Phase II contractor. Geosemble Technologies, Inc. is privately held.
