21 December 2009 – telent, the technology services company, has received further orders from Network Rail for over 700 of the versatile SELEX Communications ROG100 GSM-R hand-portable radios. These radios, developed in partnership with Network Rail, provide a range of special features specifically designed to support the broad user community of the UK GSM-R network.
Train crew radios will be issued with a ‘Railway Emergency Call’ only facility. Engineers will have radios enabled to access key network performance data which will support national deployment and site commissioning. The commissioning teams themselves will receive 35 radios which have been specially adapted to provide network measurement facilities that will speed up trackside monitoring. 250 radios are destined for maintenance staff.
telent, as exclusive distributor of SELEX Communications GSM-R products in the UK, is providing not only the radios but also full technical support and handset management services giving Network Rail complete user support.
Commenting on the award, Steve Pears, General Manager Rail at telent, said: “We are working with Network Rail in a number of key areas to support the deployment and implementation of their national GSM-R network. These orders for further hand-portable radios demonstrate Network Rail’s confidence in the telent/SELEX Communications product package.”
The radios will be delivered by the end of the year.
