NGIS China was announced as the winner of the Innovation and Commercialisation category at the West Australian Spatial Excellence awards last week, for creating a 3D environmental assessment tool for leading Chinese engineering company, CISDI.
The advanced planning tool integrates environmental modeling with 3D and spatial technologies to assess the potential social and environmental impacts of major construction projects in the densely populated region of Chongqing.
The application has allowed CISDI to test, visualise and evaluate proposed changes of new developments before construction begins. In doing so, its planners and engineers can mitigate risk, improve decision making, solve problems creatively, and plan the type, extent and timing of information available to affected stakeholders.
The application also allows CISDI to compare environmental results together with 3D models of planned infrastructure to support Environmental Impact Assessment submissions and illustrate to stakeholders the key aspects of planned projects.
“NGIS’ solution has enhanced CISDI’s capacity to solve problems faster and more efficiently, and help them deliver value to their clients in the steel and urban development sectors,” Chris Hoar, Managing Director of NGIS China said.
“The tool is particularly important for CISDI’s projects in densely populated provinces, where factors such as noise, air pollution and air quality could potentially impact thousands of people.”
“CISDI has been successfully using the tool to both mitigate risk and environmental impacts and enhance their decision making, but they have also used it to help contribute towards improving the quality of life for civilians in China,” he said.
