NCGIS sponsors Perth Ignite Spatial event

NGIS Australia will bring the first official Ignite Spatial event to the heart of Perth's CBD early next month.

The Perth Ignite Spatial will present the opportunity for anyone with an interest in GIS, spatial sciences or mapping to get up in front of a crowd and say what they like - all within 5 minutes on 20 timed slides.

The Ignite concept started in Seattle in 2006 and quickly became a world-wide phenomenon. Rather than sitting in conferences all day, Ignite Spatial is about giving short, sharp and entertaining presentations in an informal pub atmosphere. The sessions have been immensely popular in Sydney and Melbourne and this time around, the Ignite team is bringing the event to the west, thanks to NGIS Australia.

Event organiser, Stephen Lead says that Ignite Spatial - Perth promises to be a fun and entertaining evening where you will be guaranteed to learn something new, without suffering 'death by PowerPoint'.

"People these days can't really afford the time to take days out of their working week to sit through long speeches at conferences. Ignite is about condensing great ideas and sharing them in a fresh and engaging format," he said.

"We find people learn more in less time at Ignite events, plus it opens up a great opportunity to network with all sorts of people who are interested in the industry."

The invitation to attend Perth's Ignite Spatial is open and registration is free. If you are interested in becoming a speaker, head to the Ignite Spatial website.

The event will be held on:

Thursday 5th November, 2009
5.30pm for 6.30pm start
Belgian Beer Cafe
347 Murray Street, Perth
