NAVTEQ, a leading global provider of digital map data for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions, has announced the release of navigable map coverage in Argentina. The initial map includes over 200,000 km of road network across the entire country with up to 260 attributes per road segment. Including information such as direction of travel, number of lanes, speed limits, and turn restrictions, the road attributes enable navigation software to support accurate route guidance.
Other map attributes improve the functionality of the navigation device – for example, a broad range of addresses as well as over 3,600 named cities, towns and hamlets which make it easier to select destinations.
All NAVTEQ local geographic analysts are trained to work to the company’s global data specification so all maps achieve the same quality standards. Customers already providing innovative solutions for other regions can quickly and easily integrate new maps and bring navigation to a new customer base.
“The consumers and businesses relying on NAVTEQ expect our map to be of the highest standard,” commented Eliot Dam, director of product marketing - Latin America, NAVTEQ.
“Establishing local operations in the region enables us to understand and incorporate country-specific road network nuances, while maintaining the company’s global data specification.”
“The increasing adoption of global positioning systems (gps) technology in Argentina creates opportunity for Personal Navigation Devices (PND) and hand-set manufacturers, as well as telecommunications carriers to develop navigation and location-based services,” stated Jim Dineen director and general manager - Latin America, NAVTEQ. “And a proven quality map will be instrumental in fueling the success of these new services and solutions.”
The new map for Argentina represents NAVTEQ’s ongoing commitment to the region. The company’s current Latin American coverage also includes maps for Mexico and Brazil.
